Eligibility Criteria: Men. Excluded based on previous diagnosis of cancer (except non-melanoma skin cancer), implausible energy intake (.3 standard deviations from the natural logarithm transformed mean) (n = 562) or a history of HF at baseline (n = 743) were also excluded. In the primary analyses men with baseline history of MI (n = 2077) or diabetes (n = 3157) were excluded because they had higher rates of HF and may have changed their diets because of their diagnosis.
